As long as I can remember, I've made up adventures. I admit the early creative stories featured me riding the range with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and saving the West. What a disappointment to learn that Roy was exclusively committed to Dale! Eventually, my best friend from across the street and I decided to become better detectives than Nancy Drew. We drove our parents and neighbors crazy sticking our pert little noses where they didn't belong. About that time I started writing down my adventures, but mostly I was a reader. Not until I read Nora Roberts' early novels did I decide to create my own romance manuscripts. My road to publishing was a lot slower than Nora's was. No surprise there! I still read Nora's books—as well as those of countless other authors—but now I write full time. Unless life interferes, that is. My Hero and I live one a small acreage in the ranching and horse country of North Central Texas. Finally, my childhood dream has come true and I’m in the midst of cowboys. Our two daughters are grown and in their own homes not far away. Living with Hero and me now are Webster, our sweet black Shih Tzu, and our two shorthaired cats: Sebastian, a large black and white tuxedo who thinks he's our watchcat; and Bailey Erin, a shy apricot tabby who mostly stays in my office. HIGH STAKES BRIDE - Book 2 of the Men of Stone Mountain delivers a Winning Hand!

I truly have loved reading the Men of Stone Mountain series by (in my opinion) the Queen of Western Romance, Caroline Clemmons. When I first read Book One of the series, BRAZOS BRIDE, I fell in love with the hunky hero, Micah Stone and felt he was my favorite among the three Stone brothers introduced. But, after reading Book Two of the series, HIGH STAKES BRIDE, gotta admit that Zach is now my favorite brother. I have a feeling that when the much anticipated Book Three comes out, I will also find Joel Stone my "new" favorite. You might consider me fickle, but the reason the hero in each book endeared themselves so much to this reader is because Caroline Clemmons has such an amazing skill at creating characters that are unforgettable, each with their own unique personality and voice. You not only see their strengths but also gain deeper insight into their scars and hidden wounds that make up the multi-dimensional man they have become. So, it is only right and proper that the reader should fall madly in love with each hero of each book, and think no one compares to him.

I also very much loved the heroine in HIGH STAKES BRIDE, Mary Alice Price, who is just as brave and determined to take control of her life as she is inherently sweet, honest, amusing, and wholly endearing. One of the first things about her that won me over was her cute personality and often amusing habit of seeking intervention and/or understanding through impromptu silent prayer during the many challenges and life-threatening events that she faces on her journey. She definitely has an engaging personality that leaps off the page. Pairing her up with a retired Texas Ranger who's just been jilted at the altar for the second time, and this time by a Mail Order Bride, is pure genius. He doesn't trust women and wants nothing to do with any female not a member of his family. Alice is on the run from murderous step-brothers who staked and lost her in a poker game. All she wants now is to escape to Atlanta and start a new life. Without giving too much away, both Zach and Alice decide to gamble on one another temporarily in order to achieve their respective goals and go their separate ways. A bargain is made that requires alot of bluffing to friends and family, and the temptation for both Alice and Zach to just fold and walk away is a constant struggle. Danger is ever near, but the biggest risk Alice and Zach face just may be losing their hearts. A must read, and a keeper for your library. Am really looking forward to Book 3 in the series, and optimistic that the series will continue with secondary characters introduced in the first two books, including a future look at Seth Stone (introduced in this book).

I loved this story as much as I loved the one preceding it!! This is truely a wonderful series! From the very beginning it captures you attention and I had a seriously hard time putting it down! I can not wait for the next in the series to hear the last Stone Brothers' story!!

Let's Pretend

19th century Texas - The men are brave and strong, and women are few and far between. Zach Stone has a ranch with a nice stone house, but he needs a wife. Mary Alice Price has nothing but troubles. Desperation forces injured Alice into Zach's camp, and a hero has to be heroic to the damsel in distress.
On the journey to Zach's ranch, they add 7 year-old orphan, Seth Barnes, and his dog Harry to the group. Desperation forces Zach and Alice to agree to a brief pretend engagement. Zach's aunts, brothers, an attentive preacher, and assorted neighbors make it difficult to just pretend an attraction. A life as Zach's wife tempts Mary Alice to re-think her plans to go to Atlanta. Zach soon finds it hard to send his pretend bride packing.
The pretended engagement is frought with problems; Alice's green hair, a smitten preacher, Zach's once white but now bright yellow shirt, and a growing mutual love that can survive the final knowledge about Alice's step-family.

Great book to introduce people to teachings of Liberation Theology. Conservatives don't like it, but since I was born in a Third World country, I understood well the bases of the ideology.

Great Intro to Liberation Theology by Liberation Theologians

So often, when studying theology, readers are prone to seek the opinion of either (1) an author from within their own theological tradition who represents their own theological bias, or (2) an author from entirely outside of the Christian tradition who just so happens to be a specialist in that area of study. Though we should definitely not neglect such sources, it is important to study the first-hand sources written by the trailblazers from within the particular area of study. With Introducing Liberation Theology, by the Boff brothers, the reader is able to do just that.
This book offers a very good, easy-to-understand explanation of the key themes of Liberation Theology in a way that any lay person can understand. Leonardo Boff is a Brazilian theologian and his brother, Clodovis, is a Servite priest in Brazil. The fact that the authors experienced the "grassroots" development of Liberation Theology as the movement itself emerged lends much credibility to their insights for any reader interested in an "insider's" knowledge of the Liberation movement.
The reader is led to understand how Liberation Theology, as opposed to other strands of theology, is truly something that emerged from the oppressed peoples of society, not from the academic ivory towers of the universities or the Catholic Church hierarchy. Accordingly, Liberation Theology has truly become a form of Christian expression and involvement in Church and society, rather than an exercise between scholars. The authors differentiate three levels of Liberation Theology: (1) Professional, (2) Pastoral, and (3) Popular. These distinctions become important through the book as they help guide the reader's understanding of Liberation methodology, key themes, and history. Perhaps most impressive to me, a reader who comes from outside of the Liberation tradition, is the section where the authors discuss the temptations, tendencies, and biases of Liberation Theology. Such intellectual honesty helps me to take more seriously the descriptions and arguments found in other places of this book. Accordingly, I recommend this book as an important companion to anyone interested in learning about Liberation Theology.

Leonardo and Clodovis Boff are liberation theologians, priests, and brothers who have devoted much of their careers to the pursuit and practice of liberation theology in the church and in the world. Leonardo Boff is a professor in Petropolis, Brazil; Clodovis Boff is a professor in Sao Paulo, Brazil - both have used their educational platforms to spread the knowledge of liberation theology from a Latin American base-community perspective throughout the world; however, as liberation theology is a praxis-oriented theology, the Boff brothers continue to work among the poor people (of which there are many in Brazil) to bring about the realisation as best possible the liberating message of the gospel.
In fewer than 100 pages, the Boffs give a succinct and clear overview of liberation theology - this is a theology of the poor, in which the gospel message and the character of Christ are seen as being in solidarity with the poor. Liberation theology is complex, but the Boffs reduce it to simple, understandable tenets.
There are three levels of liberation theology, according to the authors: professional, pastoral, and popular. The professional level involves academic theorists and clergy administrator types; the pastoral level involves the teaching and compassionate action of clergy and lay ministers; however, it is the popular level that is most important here, where the action is most involved in the world. Liberation theology sometimes involves confrontation - when Oscar Romero stood up to the oppressors in Central America, he was engaging in all three levels of liberation theology.
In succeeding chapters, the authors look at the primary themes of liberation theology, a brief history of the development of liberation ideas from political, social, ecclesial and theological roots, and the spread of liberation ideas worldwide. Liberation theology is sometimes seen in purely political terms, particularly in Western seminaries and churches, because those of us in the West have lost the ability to think in theological terms as a matter of course; to be fair, however, liberation theology does intend to challenge the status quo of political and economic relationships, much to the discomfort of those in the West. Liberation theologians from inside the Roman Catholic church have had to endure periods of officially-sanctioned 'silence' and have often been branded 'Marxists' as a denigration of their theological standing.
Churches of all sorts have a love/hate relationship with liberation theology. Large and small, catholic and protestant, liberation theology has a tendency to challenge existing relationships between rich and poor, powerful and powerless, gender roles, and more. Liberation theology from the beginnings in Latin America have spread to encompass more communities - feminist theologians, African-American theologians, Hispanic theologians, and more have drawn inspiration from the idea that God has a preferential care for the powerless and oppressed, and that many stories in scripture, particularly in the gospel messages, show God's care in this direction. Jesus was always more concerned for the poor than the rich, for the common people than the kings and ruling class, and liberation theologians pick up on this fact.
The Boffs set out their hope for a truly free society, a dream of liberation for all people from the various forces that oppress. This book is a wonderful introduction to this very influential and occasionally controversial theology, from two of the leading lights in the field professionally, pastorally, and among the people they love.

Harris Kern is no new name to us anymore. He has touched so many people in so many different ways with his wise words through script. I have to say I read and follow Harris Kern as I am a big fan and he truly helped me take myself to the next level. But i have to say that this book is slightly different. It not only mentors you but makes you reflect more on what life is all about. I purchased the book a few weeks ago and once i started reading it i couldnt take it off my hands until i saw the back cover. Well done Harris Kern. You never seize to amaze me. And thank you for inspiring and guiding us. Looking forward to your next book as always.

This book is a good wakeup call

Very insightful and although at first I was skeptical about reading another self-help book, because I have read a few and years later I am still procrastinating and not always motivated to work on my goals. I tried using the author's anecdote by training my mind to live with urgency and it really helped me a lot. I learned quite a bit about holding yourself accountable in the author's previous book, but this one provides more details and is dedicated to helping you get off your butt and making something happen quickly before another ten years fly by and you haven't accomplished anything. This book is a good wakeup call. art

Outstanding, Harris Kern has done it again with his new book "Live Like You Are Dying"! This time he has written a book that is a clarion call to both young and old to get their a**s in gear, because time waits for no one. This book is chuck full of wisdom on how to accomplish more in your life in a shorter period of time, "before it's too late". :-) Throughout the book Harris doesn't hesitate to make all of his successes AND failures available to the reader as examples of what to do and what not to do in fufilling your goals. Harris will coach you all along the way as to what it will take to reach all of your goals, but he won't hold your hand or tolerate any excuses, in fact he covers almost any excuse that you can come up with, he's heard them all. Me, being a senior citizen, (did I just admit that? LOL) I need all of the help that I can get because time IS running out for me, and this book has all that I need to reach all of my goals.

Even experienced singers will find value in this information...

I have been a singing teacher and I have sung for many years. I am new to this technique and I have long wanted a book on the subject with some real meat in the detail. While books are no substitute for a personal consultation there has been a need for some real information to explore. Ethan Kind writes with a generous nature and a full explanation of the concepts. Sure there is some repetition of information, but it is necessary in order to keep resetting the context so a fuller understanding is reached. The book is in two parts. The first is the method explained and the second is a series of blog posts to give the book more volume. I found valuable insights in the second section too but there was much to wade through. For example there was a gem on warming up, but you would never find it because the book is not categorised that way. I did not deduct points for this as the quality of information demands 5 stars.

After first reading the book fully and then trying the techniques I am very happy with the results and that is only after one day. I know a bit about unlocking the voice and this is the surest short cut you will ever find. My first attempts (after thoroughly absorbing the information) were so promising that it was a revelation. I know that I need to bed in these responses and that it will take some time and dedication but the breakthroughs were enough to make me feel secure to do the work. In fact I am now determined to find a practitioner and take some personal instruction.

Just a note for users. As you read the book, it is best to note the pages/location of the 'exercises'' as they are not formally organized but rather pop in the text in the process of explanation. As in "Stand up and try this...." Luckily I did this on the first read. The only other thing I would change is that the table of content should be linked to the chapters.

The author does occasionally mention God when speaking of performing, but it did not cause me any alarm. He writes with great kindness and that is an asset and a credit to his belief.

What a singer needs

Without basic posture, you are nowhere. Basic posture, basic singing technique, they are only 10 %. This book covers that and the other 90%, singing is mental. You can read this book and apply it to several endeavors in life. Read it if you want to be a singer.

The only misstep in Dahl's corpus of children's books

The Roald Dahl stories still speak to adult kids like me. However, I've noted that this sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the only weak link in his otherwise excellent corpus of children's books.

I will just offer my brief impressions of this book.

This story is made up of two halves. The first half focuses on the journey back to the factory. The Elevator links up with a space hotel and Mr Wonka and the Buckets are chased by Vermicious Knids. Once they are back at the factory the story changes gear to talk about the abuses of Wonkavite by the grandparents. The Elevator links both halves of the book because it is used for all the journeys that Charlie makes. However this does not disguise the fact that this book has two distinct halves that do not cohere together.

The writing style is laboured here and lacks freshness. Also, the jokes come off as lame and feeble. Only Willy Wonka holds the book together.

As such, this book is not quite as compelling and coherent as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

It Is Just Terrible

I enjoy Roald Dahl stories, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is certainly a favorite of mine. Published in 1972, the first part clearly was influenced by the at-that-time recent Apollo missions. This would not have been a bad thing per se, but the story he chose to tell as Charlie and company were in space was, simply put, boring. Here he had this wonderful opportunity with the space hotel to create another fantastic environment for adventure and amazing things to happen and instead he gives us a boring hotel in space and a goofy president of the United States. Some of the characters, such the grandparents, were not written the same was the first book and were instead whining the whole time. In the end, this book adds nothing to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It reads as a completely different story with Charlie and the gang inserted into it as an afterthought.

GREAT BOOK

My 9 year old loved this book and is asking for more books from this Author. She read this in school with her class and since next year we are homeschooling maybe these other books would be great for book reports? Anyway I think these are great for kids around 9 and up.
This book is about what happened after Charlie won the factory. IF you want to know what all it is about I just can't spoil it for you but I will tell you it has something to do with space..
